About Me: As most of you can tell (hopefully), my name is Stephen Ramil. I am 23 years old and graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelors in Business Marketing. While attending OSU I came to the realization that I did not want to graduate working for somebody other than myself. I looked around and explored the niche options within my field of study and ended up starting a market research services business. While at school, I also wanted to associate with fellow students that were on the same path as me; resulting in me being President of the Entrepreneurship Society. Throughout my constant search for knowledge via professors, visiting professionals, and fellow students I learned that networking is truly a necessary tool. One, that if mastered will be a priceless asset contributing to your success. Throughout my short life I have been able to network with a good amount of people. However, I do not feel I am anywhere near the level I need to be in order to continue my successes. So low and behold, the creation of this blog.
My Objective: This blog will be used as an avenue to teach others the value and skills of networking. I will document the progress I make daily (or at least try my best to J). Now, you are wondering “what exactly will he be doing”…so, onto the fun stuff.
The Mission: In a nutshell, I will be starting at the ‘bottom’ of the food chain and network my way all the way up to the end goal. The end goal will be to meet (via email/phone/etc.) a ‘big wig’ business professional (i.e. Trump, Branson, Cuban, etc.). Along the way I will keep track of my conversations with each new person I meet. I will also hopefully have them answer a questionnaire that you, the readers will help me create. Now, I could easily use the connections I have already established to give me a big jump towards my end goal. However, that would defeat the purpose of letting you follow along in my progress and watch my ups and downs throughout this adventure. So, to recap, I will give an example on exactly how this “self-challenge” will work.
Ex. I will contact my first person (undecided as of now). I will then plan a time to interview them. In the interview I will cover the topic of networking and see how they have used it in their life. I will also have them answer the questionnaire (if time allows). After the interview I will ask that person for another name of whom I can contact. Someone they legitimately know, so they can call that person and give them a heads up about me. I’ll then call the new contact and do the same thing. These steps will be repeated over and over until I am put in contact with my end goal. Make sense?
Why do this? Well to some this task may seem impossible. Though, as an entrepreneur, the word “impossible” does not exist in my vocabulary. I am not doing this to attract attention or to make a profitable blog (as you can see, there are no ads or any other type of revenue generating junk). I am simply here to fine tune my networking skills, and in doing so share with you my experiences. One of the best and most effective ways to learn is to teach! I have an extreme passion for helping others, and this is an excellent way for me to reach out to many different people. If I am able to get one person to muster up the courage to get out there and start networking, then this blog will be a success!
In closing, I want to reiterate that I am by no means a “master networker” (yet
), and am always open to input and comments! I want to make this as much of an interactive experience as possible, that way we both get the most out of this adventure! I am just like you, only documenting my events along the way, to truly show that this will be possible for absolutely anyone to accomplish!
I look forward to exploring the wonders of networking under the watchful eye of you guys, my readers. Please feel free to contact me at anytime concerning absolutely any issue.
